I hold a Bachelor of Education Degree in English and Literature. I am committed to providing students with a dynamic and interesting learning environment in which they can grow and develop. I seek to encourage students to enjoy extra curricular activities, which I believe instill them with a self directed life-long learning.
I have 18 years of teaching experience. As a result I have developed excellent communication, leadership, organizational and time-management skills. While working at various private international schools in Kenya which offer the British Curriculum to their students I played an essential role preparing students for their IGCSE English exams, with excellent results. I gained experience teaching students with English as a second language and designed visual and interactive lessons. I co-ordinated the overseas S.A.T programmes and played a major role in the planned and development assessment procedures in KS2, KS3, KS4, IGCSE English, General Studies and Thinking Skills in A level implementing IT within this process. I encouraged parents to be widely involved in many areas of school life whilst developing close working relationships in an active PTA.
As Acting Head Teacher, I offered advice and support to staff on planning, assessment and resources, including lesson modeling. In the spirit of teamwork, I worked alongside other teachers in organizing special events in the schools such as International Night, School Productions, Poetry Night and Carol Services. All these involved major performances such as dance, song, music and drama.
Having worked in a variety of international schools in Kenya, I have benefited from the rich cultural diversity and therefore appreciate the attitudes and values of others. I aim to be an academically prepared, multicultural, multiethnic, culturally responsive teacher so that I can ensure educational equality to all students. This vision is built on a belief in the power of education, excellence, diversity and community.
