My love of wanting to work with children started when I was just a child myself. My Mum and her best friend started a business together when I was about 5. The business was like a gym for 2-6yr olds to help build co-ordination skills as well as social skills, balance etc. As I got a little older, I started to gain a little responsibility in helping children to use the gym equipment, under the watchful eye of my Mum of course. When I was 14 I started my first paying job at McDonalds where I did various things from Customer Service to Assisting in Children's Parties. I eventually moved on from there and jumped right into working in a Before and After School Care at the local Primary School which I used to attend. Healthy snacks and setting up the inside and outside play areas were the first tasks on the list of various things to do. This job led to working in Childcare which had been my main goal in achieving since leaving McDonalds. Although I never gained any qualifications in Childcare, I believe having hands on experience is the best qualification you can have. I learnt how to change nappies, how to get children into routine, how to put children down for naps, how to resolve arguments, the list goes on. Although I enjoyed my time working in Childcare, I had a desire to go traveling and to possibly work overseas. So in 2004 I decided to live and work in the UK for 6 months. I came home for Christmas but then decided to return to the UK for another 8 months in 2005. Both years I worked in a hotel looking after Children. I had a few other jobs (when I returned home) from 2006-2010 but it wasn't until a recent trip back to the UK that I decided I wanted to be a Nanny/Babysitter. I was inspired by my two cousins in the UK, who have 6 gorgeous young children between them. They range in ages from 7yrs-18 months old. My cousin loved that the children wanted me to look after them and suggested I should consider Nannying. I love the little things that children say or do, they are real characters! I love seeing their imaginations run wild when they put pencils to paper, or to see what creations they come up with when they are using the building blocks or lego.
I hope I have not rambled on too much for you but there is more about my family history working with children if you would like to know :)
