Personal Statement:
One of my passions in life is to work with young children, ever since the birth of my baby cousin, Ebonni, I have been fascinated in helping her develop; social, emotional, physical and intellectual skills. From the age of around 2 months, I have been volunteering myself to help babysit her around 2 times a week. She is now 18 months old, and is milestones ahead of the average 18 month child. Since babysitting Ebonni I have developed a keen interest in young children and babies. This is one of my best qualities because of the responsibilities I was dealt in ensuring she was; fed, clothed, bathed, happy and on time for bed, I developed a mature attitude for my age.
Because of my keen interest in working with children, I was happy to train as a listener. A listener is a student that listens to younger pupils and helps aid them through hard times. I was also asked to go on a residential trip with a number of pupils in my year; the reason of the trip was to see which students had the potential to be leading the school by becoming senior prefects. The responsibilities of being a listener meant that I would stay behind one night after school, to help assist at homework club a club that helps students with their homework and also a place of discipline. However, many of the trained listeners dropped out of their responsibilities and stopped helping out at homework club, so I took over and now do homework club 3 nights a week for an hour a night. This has helped develop my skills and made me become a more mature student.
Another one of my main key skills is my confidence, from a very young age I have expressed myself through performance arts, acting in my local pantomime since the age of 4, I have been doing Poppleton panto for 10 years. I have also been in a school production of Who Killed The Headmaster? a comical murder mystery as a main part. Recently I have found that my comical personality landed me a spot in the school show doing stand up comedy, to over 350 students. The show went well and it gave me a new lease of confidence.
All of my accomplishments have made me realise the route I want to take for the future, I know my aspirations are to go to university after getting my A levels at 6th form and study either law and criminology or child care and teaching. I think Id be well suited for either job as I like to think I am very responsible for my age and have a keen interest in law. I have always been very strong willed and not afraid to speak my mind.
In my lessons I do very well in child development, getting As and A*s in my class tests and exams. It is by far my favourite lesson. In English I got 54/54 on my drama coursework and an equally satisfying grade for my personal presentation on the life of my mother when she was going through depression. In history I managed to achieve an A in my GCSE practise exam. And in drama I have been achieving band 1 results which is A A* grades. I get on very well with my teachers, and my class mates, I am very vocal of my opinions in class and get on well working with people. Overall, I view myself as a good candidate for any job. As I feel I meet the criteria needed due to my mature social skills. I enjoy meeting new people and overcoming obstacles and progressing in my work.
From previously working with a variety of "difficult" children, I have found that babysitting is the right profession for me, at my age. And hope to work with families both within the household and without.
