I am an 18 year old girl who has just completed my A-Levels in Health and Social Care and ICT at St Mary's Sixth Form. I am going to apply for a degree course at university beginning September 2011 doing Early Childhood Studies, Working with children, young people +& families or Children's inter-professional skills. After I finish my 3 years at university I am hoping to move +& work abroad for a couple of years as a Children's Holiday Representative, as I have wanted to do since I was 10. +& then come back +& work with children +& babies both in care +& up for adoption. As I love children +& I would really like to make a difference to children's lives :D
I am hoping to gain the experience working with children of all ages to help me along my journey in life to finish it +& reach my career :) I am a energetic, enthusiastic, happy girl who enjoys getting down to a child's level +& keeping the children entertained +& happy.
As I am the oldest of 4 children +& my mum was a single parent until 7 years ago. I have always helped her look after the other 3 as she could not do it all alone. I helped her with the basic needs of the children such as playing games with them up to helping her bath, feed +& change them.
I have also looked after my mum's friends son since he was 6 weeks old +& he is now 3 years old. I look after him ensuring that he is safe +& not in any danger +& I also change, feed, bath, entertain him.
As part of my Health and Social Care course, I had to take part in a placement for one afternoon at a nursery to carry out a group +& one-to-one interaction with the children at the nursery. For the one-to-one interaction, I created lolly stick puppets with one child at a time, guiding them using scissors +& glue. Then for my group interaction, I read a story to a group of 6 children whilst getting them involved in the story.
